Scope of this Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement ("Privacy Statement") describes On-LineTaxes, Inc.'s ("OnLine Taxes", "we" or "us") privacy practices for individuals when we process personal information through the Free File Program Fillable Forms Utility ("Service" or "Services").

Please note that the Service allows you to share your information with various tax agencies for the purposes of helping you file your taxes. Information shared with tax agencies will be subject to such agency's privacy policies and practices, which may differ from OnLine Taxes'. For details on how tax agencies may process your personal information, please see their privacy notices.

Free File Information

We understand that your personal information processed for the purposes of preparing a tax return or in connection with the preparation of a tax return as part of the Free File Program Fillable Forms Utility (collectively, "Free File Information") is special. Except as necessary to provide you with tax preparation services or as authorized by law, we will not use or disclose your Free File Information.

Information Collection and Use of Personal Information

We collect personal information from you for the purpose of providing the Service. Further, we use your Free File Information to allow you to prepare and file federal tax returns.

Tax Information

We collect the information that you provide to us when you complete and file any tax return using the Service. This information includes, but is not limited to: your name, e-mail address, social security number, address, income, dependents, and other financial information. We may also use this information to contact you regarding your use of the Service.
You may review and change this Free File Information at any time before the IRS accepts your tax return by returning to the Service and accessing your tax return. After the IRS accepts your tax return, you cannot change the Free File Information contained in that tax return.

We collect information when you create an account, including, for example, your contact information (such as your name, address, phone number, and email), usernames and credentials. We collect information to verify your identity and help you file your tax return, including, for example, your name, social security number, driver's license numbers, government-issued identification details. We may collect other information when you reach out to us for support, give us feedback, participate in optional surveys, product research or trainings. All information referenced herein is Free File Information.

Disclosure of Free File Information

We will not disclose your Free File Information to unaffiliated third parties. Specifically, we will not share, sell or rent your Free File Information to third-party advertisers, "spammers", or anyone else who we know will use it for their own advertising or marketing purposes. We will, however, disclose your Free File Information under the limited circumstances listed below:

Tax Returns

When you prepare and file a tax return using the Service, that tax return, and the Free File Information that you include in it, will be provided to the taxing authority with whom the tax return is filed. The IRS will use this information to process your return. In addition, each year the IRS analyzes data from tax returns to monitor tax-filing trends, improve its processes, prevent fraud, and promote its services. The IRS currently requires that all returns filed through the Free File Fillable Forms program (including those filed through the Services) indicate that they originated from the Free File Fillable Forms program, and may use that information consistent with IRS rules governing the collection and use of taxpayer data. OnLine Taxes does not control and takes no responsibility for IRS use of Free File Information. The IRS requires that your IP address be linked to your Free File Information. The IP address includes the IP address itself, and also includes, but is not limited to, date, time and time zone information. Accordingly, we treat your IP address as "Free File Information" and will protect it as such, as outlined in this Privacy Policy. In addition, in an attempt to detect fraud, we provide your IP address to the applicable taxing authority when you file your tax return using the Services.

Emergencies and Disclosure Required by Law

We reserve the right to disclose your Free File Information without your consent to prevent an emergency, to protect or enforce our rights, to protect or enforce the rights of a third-party, as required or permitted by law (including, without limitation, to comply with a subpoena or court order), in response to an inquiry or request from regulatory authorities, or to protect against fraud. You should note that the taxing authorities frequently request information regarding our user's use of the Services, and we comply with such requests. In certain situations, OnLine Taxes may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

SSL and Data Security

The security of your personal information is important to us. When applicable we encrypt the transmission of that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). We restrict access to your information that we keep. Only employees who need such information to perform a specific job are granted access to it.

We cannot and do not act as insurers of the security of your Free File Information, particularly when it is transmitted over the Internet. Accordingly, we assume no liability for any disclosure of data due to errors in transmission, unauthorized third-party access or other acts of third parties, or acts or omissions beyond our reasonable control. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We may also use your personal information for purposes that are compatible with the disclosed purposes if and where this is permitted by applicable law and the IRS Free File Program.
